Who is a dermatologist?
Dermatologist is a doctor, specialist in skin, hair and nail disease.
A MBBS doctor who has board certified qualification in Dermatology are called Dermatologist. In India, a basic doctor (MBBS) can practice most of the associated disciplines and even Dermatology. However, he/she can not claim to be a dermatologist. At present, medical council of India has three recognized qualification in Dermatology. These are degree (MD), diploma (DVDL) and DNB (Dermatology).
Dermatology is a subject that deals with the skin, its anatomy and pathology or diseased conditions. Medical as well as surgical manoeuvres to cure or manage the diseases are taught. Various newer techniques like laser, chemical peels, and other advanced medical and surgical techniques are now also learned as the integral parts of the subjects.
